DEXIS' webinar, Diagnosing with Confidence: Clinical Strategies for Modern Dental Imaging, presented by Dr. John Zalesky, explored how combining multiple imaging modalities with AI-assisted analysis can help clinicians improve diagnostic confidence, enhance patient communication, and support more consistent clinical decision-making. 

Dr. John Zalesky is a comprehensive dentist, educator, and speaker with extensive experience in digital dentistry, implantology, and restorative care. A Fellow of both the Academy of General Dentistry and the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, he is known for incorporating emerging technologies into clinical practice and helping clinicians integrate digital workflows into diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient care. 

A central theme of the webinar was the value of combining multiple imaging modalities to improve diagnostic confidence. By integrating 2D radiographs, CBCT imaging, intraoral photography, and digital scans, clinicians can gain a more comprehensive understanding of patient conditions and reduce the likelihood of missed findings. Through clinical case examples, Dr. Zalesky demonstrated how advanced imaging can reveal pathology that may not be apparent on traditional radiographs alone. 

The webinar also explored the growing role of artificial intelligence in diagnostic workflows. Dr. Zalesky discussed how AI can assist clinicians by identifying potential findings such as caries, bone loss, calculus, marginal defects, and periapical pathology. At the same time, he reinforced that AI should be viewed as a support tool rather than a replacement for clinical judgment. Several examples highlighted both the strengths and limitations of AI-assisted analysis, underscoring the importance of clinician oversight and interpretation. 

Another key focus was the role of visual communication in patient education and treatment acceptance. Dr. Zalesky emphasized that many patients are not trained to understand traditional radiographs, making visual tools increasingly valuable during treatment discussions. Integrated imaging platforms and AI-assisted visualizations can help patients better understand their oral health conditions, supporting greater trust, engagement, and treatment acceptance. 

The webinar also highlighted the benefits of organized digital workflows. Consolidating diagnostic records within a unified platform can simplify treatment planning, improve efficiency, and support a more consistent clinical experience. 

Overall, the webinar reinforced that modern imaging technologies and AI-assisted review are most effective when combined with sound clinical judgment. By integrating multiple sources of diagnostic information and improving patient understanding, clinicians can make more confident decisions and deliver more comprehensive care.
