DEXIS’ webinar, Exploring an Expanded Imaging Platform for General Dentists, presented by Dr. Gregory Gillespie, provided an exploration of how integrated imaging technologies are reshaping treatment planning, diagnostic workflows, and patient communication.  

Dr. Gillespie, a restorative and cosmetic dentist, shared insights drawn from extensive experience in comprehensive care, digital dentistry, and interdisciplinary treatment planning. He is also a lecturer and key opinion leader known for his focus on esthetics, implants, and communication-centered care.  

A core message of the webinar was the value of consolidating 2D and 3D radiographs, intraoral scans, and clinical photography within a single platform. Dr. Gillespie emphasized that bringing these image types together can simplify workflows, improve access to diagnostic information, and create a more seamless approach to treatment planning.  

He also discussed the benefits of bringing data from multiple imaging sources into one platform, supporting a more flexible and collaborative approach to digital treatment planning. He also emphasized evaluating imaging systems based on the needs of the practice, including workflow efficiency and how clinicians communicate with patients. 

The program also highlighted the growing role of artificial intelligence in emerging imaging platforms. Dr. Gillespie discussed how AI can support visualization, assist in identifying findings, and streamline aspects of planning, while reinforcing that these tools are most effective when used alongside clinician judgment rather than solely relying on AI. 

Another major focus was patient communication. By viewing multiple forms of diagnostic information on one screen, clinicians can present conditions and treatment options in a clearer, more visual way. Dr. Gillespie emphasized how this can strengthen understanding, support trust, and improve the treatment planning conversation.  

The webinar reinforced that integrated imaging platforms can improve workflow efficiency, elevate communication, and support a more connected approach to comprehensive dental care, offering perspective on how thoughtful technology adoption can align innovation with patient-centered treatment planning.
