Strategic Alignment: The Key to Exceptional Restorative Outcomes – A BISCO Webinar Recap

BISCO’s webinar, Strategic Alignment: The Key to Exceptional Restorative Outcomes, presented by Dr. Sheila Samaddar, explored how clear aligner therapy can support restorative planning and help clinicians create more predictable, conservative, and long-lasting outcomes for patients.

Dr. Sheila Samaddar is a restorative dentist and nationally recognized clear aligner provider based in Washington, DC. Known for her patient-centered approach and expertise in digital dentistry, she focuses on combining restorative treatment with alignment-based planning to improve both function and esthetics while preserving natural dentition whenever possible.

A central theme of the webinar was that orthodontics should not be viewed as purely cosmetic. Dr. Samaddar emphasized the importance of positioning teeth properly before beginning restorative treatment. She reinforced the idea that moving teeth first can often reduce the need for extensive preparation later, helping clinicians preserve more natural tooth structure while improving occlusion and long-term restorative stability.

Using a variety of clinical cases, the webinar demonstrated how aligner therapy can improve treatment planning in patients with crowding, wear, and unstable occlusion. Many of the examples showed how even moderate orthodontic movement can improve hygiene access, reduce restorative compromises, and support better long-term function. Dr. Samaddar also discussed the unique challenges of adult orthodontic treatment, emphasizing the importance of realistic expectations, patient compliance, and long-term retention.

The webinar also explored the role of digital workflows and treatment sequencing in comprehensive care. Dr. Samaddar discussed the value of intraoral scanning, digital records, diagnostic wax-ups, and restorative planning to help clinicians visualize final outcomes before treatment begins and improve efficiency throughout treatment. Another topic discussed was the interdisciplinary nature of restorative care and how alignment can influence long-term treatment planning across a variety of clinical situations.

Overall, the webinar reinforced the value of proactive treatment planning and minimally invasive dentistry. By incorporating strategic alignment into restorative workflows, clinicians can improve predictability, preserve natural tooth structure, and support more comprehensive long-term outcomes for patients.
