Educational Objectives

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the state of oral health in America in reference to data from the WHO, CDC, and DMFT Indexes of countries such as Switzerland and the United Kingdom compared to US. And why NOW is the time to escalate optimal therapies for the disease risks our patients present with.
  • Align the goals of the Dental Hygiene Appointment by efficiently recognizing biofilm and comfortably removing its toxicity as a culprit that induces an inflammatory burden on the body
  • Develop oral health/systemic health improving strategies by utilizing disclosing agents and tools and medicaments for personalized risk therapy and long-term maintenance
  • Remove barriers to change the way we provide care by assessing risks and personalizing therapies. Remove the “procedure” and identify the opportunities to maximize decontamination therapies vs scratch and polish appointments and begin to use verbiage to include our patients in the therapy goals
  • Elevate from what we learned in dental hygiene school by empowering hygienists to practice at the top of their scope and stop cleaning teeth
  • Integrate Guided Biofilm Therapy into the dental hygiene visit and collaborate with your patients in total health and wellness with sustainable long term goals

Abstract

Have you ever thought that there may be a better way to provide dental hygiene care to our patients? Have you ever asked yourself why we are suffering from an oral health crisis in America in the year 2021? This course will help to provide a comprehensive approach to bringing LIFE back into the dental hygiene appointment using the principles of Guided Biofilm Therapy. This course will discuss utilizing GBT with your patients as a treatment for oral and systemic health. Sarah discusses the disconnect between dentistry and medicine as she helps to align the goals of the Dental Hygiene appointment, while also addressing the importance of effectively removing biofilm as the culprit that induces an inflammatory burden on the body. This course will have you lean in as Sarah explains why you should integrate the eight steps of Guided Biofilm Therapy into the decontamination appointment.
