Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, the dental practitioner will:

  • Learn about some of the modern aspects of the concepts related to diagnosis, access, irrigation, instrumentation, obturation, and post placement.
  • Be introduced to a hybrid instrumentation and obturation technique.
  • Learn the simplicity and efficiency of sealer-based obturation using bioceramics.

Abstract

Over the past three decades, much of the clinical attention in endodontics has been focused on instrumentation and obturation. While our understanding of the clinical parameters for success during endodontic care has shifted to the broader concept of disinfection of canal spaces and their subsequent obturation with a lasting seal, the endodontic triad of cleaning, shaping, and obturation remains the main goal of all root canal procedures. Endodontics is primarily focused on microbial control of the root canal space, and the awareness of such has resulted in a number of clinical techniques and technologies designed to achieve this result. Each instrumentation technique has its own characteristics, and it is important to understand the priorities offered by each system so that clinicians can make choices based on their own philosophy and subsequently employ a system that follows their principles and priorities for clinical care.
