Educational Objectives

Learning Objectives:

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Distinguish between adhesive bonding with resin cements and cementation with RMGI cements, and determine appropriate indications for each approach.

  • Evaluate and select resin cement systems—including self-adhesive and multistep systems—based on restorative material, tooth substrate, and clinical requirements.

  • Implement evidence-based techniques for ceramic crown surface preparation, air abrasion, curing, and rebonding, with particular emphasis on zirconia restorations.

Abstract

This course delivers a practical, chairside-oriented approach to cementation and bonding techniques for ceramic crown restorations. The program begins by contrasting adhesive bonding with resin cements versus conventional cementation using resin-modified glass ionomer (RMGI) cements, highlighting clinical indications, benefits, and potential drawbacks of each option.

Participants will then review key differences between self-adhesive resin cements and resin cements used with separate bonding agents, with guidance on selecting the most appropriate system for specific restorative scenarios. Real-world clinical cases are used throughout the course to illustrate material selection and clinical decision-making.

The session concludes by addressing frequently asked clinical questions, including zirconia surface treatment for RMGI cementation, recommended air-abrasion pressures, light-curing considerations, and strategies for recementing debonded ceramic restorations.

Upon completion, attendees will have a clear, evidence-based workflow for choosing and executing cementation protocols for ceramic crowns.
