Educational Objectives

The following learning objectives will be explored in this presentation: These objectives are designed to touch on the endless number of possibilities that challenge traditional dentistry.

  • An overview of what a digital workflow looks like and an example of interactive decision-making- recognizing why scanning in the digital workflow can dramatically improve accuracy, communication, and practice efficiency, while reducing errors in the treatment planning phase, surgical protocols and restorative design.
  • Generating a 3D virtual facially driven planning format- starting with the acquisition of impressions with intraoral scanning and relating digital models to the patient’s face.
  • Implant therapy- using intraoral digital scanning combined with CBCT scans to decide on immediate, early, or delayed implant placement and restoration protocols. Recognize the pros and cons of these decisions.

Abstract

A Critical Look at How Present Day Intraoral Digital Scanning Has Altered the Way in Which We Care for Our Patients: A Surgical, Orthodontic, and Restorative Collaboration All in 50 Minutes

This presentation will explore how innovations and concept changes shape our skills and treatment planning solutions, while underscoring the importance of collaborative planning between restoring dentist, technicians and surgical team members.

Concepts that will be reviewed include the impact of optical scanning on virtual planning, guided surgical concepts and the monitoring and management of soft tissue deficiencies.

Prosthetic concepts that will be touched on include post-surgical scanning, design and restorative material selection for esthetics and long-term stability in both implant dentistry and the management of traditional crown and bridge.
