Abstract

Intraoral scanners in dentistry have reached early majority adoption in 2025, and modern dentists are reaping the benefits of digitizing their daily workflows. But what is the next step to maximize, utilize, and fully realize the potential of digital techniques in dentistry?

Once a dentist has access to an intraoral scanner, a digital camera, and perhaps a 3D printer, how can these tools be leveraged to improve diagnosis, communication, case acceptance, and clinical outcomes?

The answer lies in learning basic digital CAD design using laboratory software. By mastering the ability to align intraoral scans with portrait photos and design digital wax-ups using laboratory CAD design software, dentists gain the opportunity to virtually diagnose and understand their patients before beginning treatment. This proficiency fosters stronger collaboration with lab technicians, leading to improved communication, predictability, and superior clinical outcomes.

It’s the secret "cheat code" to thriving with digital dentistry, hidden in plain sight!
