Abstract
Endodontic emergencies are some of the most common cases that present unexpectedly to the dentist. Since these emergencies occur at any time of day and require a confident response, it is in the best interest of every dentist to understand how to diagnose and handle endodontics emergencies. Knowledge of how to properly diagnose and subsequently treat these emergencies leads to success for both the patient and the practitioner handling the case. This webinar offers a framework for how best to handle emergencies, both through a conservative and an aggressive approach. Participants will understand the symptoms associated with both inflamed and necrotic teeth, how to differentiate between the two, and how to handle each type of case appropriately so the patient receives relief and the dentist prevents a larger emergency. Pharmaceuticals (updated to the newest AAE guidelines) will be discussed as well as an efficient filing technique to relieve the patient of discomfort.

Author Bio
Dr. Meredith Newman
Dr. Meredith Y. Newman has lived all over the country. She attended Duke University, where she was the chair of the honor council. During her breaks, she was a surgical assistant for an oral surgeon, where she discovered an intense interest in dentistry. It combined two of her favorite things–taking care of people and biology. After her time in North Carolina, she attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, from which she graduated with honors. She spent a year in a general practice residency at the VA Hospital in Pittsburgh, which is where her love for root canals began!
Dr. Newman went on to complete her endodontics residency at the University of Pittsburgh. During her time there, she continued to treat patients and teach residents at the VA Hospital, as well as complete cutting-edge research, which she presented twice to the American Association of Endodontists.
After her residency, she and her husband moved to Buffalo, NY, where she practiced for close to a decade before meeting her current partner, a periodontist. Together they opened the first multi-specialty practice in the central valley of California, near her family. Advanced Perio Endo eXperts (APEX for short) is home to 2 periodontists and 2 endodontists.
Dr. Newman strives to treat her patients with both precision and a friendly attitude, and she loves to share her love for root canals with others, which is why she has enjoyed lecturing with Kerr. She’s known for being caring, talkative, and having a true passion for her work.
Outside of the office, Dr. Newman loves cooking, reading, and spending time with her husband and their two little boys. She’s currently becoming an amazing LEGO builder and loves spending time outside.
