Abstract
Every day, dentists work in an environment where wound healing is necessary following an extraction, implant placement, frenectomy, gingivectomy, trauma, or even an ulceration. This healing process takes place in a remarkable, warm, oral fluid–filled space of microorganisms — the oral cavity.
However, many patients experience challenges during healing, often accompanied by discomfort, which can lead to less-than-desirable results.
This program will present an overview of basic wound healing principles, along with an updated discussion of the local and general factors that play significant roles. Attendees will gain an understanding of foundational concepts through major vitamin and mineral categories, concluding with specific clinical applications of current therapeutics to reduce discomfort, achieve a healthier oral balance, and create a better patient experience.

Dr. Lori Trost
Dr. Lori Trost wants to create future generations who live without fear of the dentist. With over 30 years of experience, she has helped thousands of patients improve their smiles and regain their confidence while experiencing the very best care. She received her dental degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine before creating a successful restorative and preventive-based practice in the greater St. Louis area that is known for delivering excellent patient care. As an accomplished dental educator, key opinion leader, and clinical evaluator for innovative dental products, Dr. Trost has first exposure to many breaking technologies which she incorporates into her patient-centered care. Away from the office you can find Dr. Trost watching her secret indulgence of “Fixer Upper,” playing piano, reading a great history book, watching the Cardinals, or traveling with her husband and children.
