Abstract
Clinical excellence alone does not guarantee patient acceptance, satisfaction, or team stability. In today’s dental environment, small behavioral and communication shifts often have a greater impact on outcomes than technical explanations alone. This course explores how optimism, intentional connection, and practical “soft skills” directly influence patient trust, case acceptance, and practice culture.
Participants will examine how a dentist’s tone, pacing, confidence, and internal mindset subtly shape patient decisions and team dynamics. Through practical, real-world examples, this presentation demonstrates how minor adjustments in communication and leadership behavior can produce measurable improvements without adding time or complexity to the clinical day.

Author Bio
Dr. Steven Garrett
Dr. Steven Garrett is a practicing dentist and co-owner of Amelia Dental Group in Fernandina Beach, Florida. He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Florida College of Dentistry in 2014 and has since remained deeply committed to clinical excellence and lifelong learning. Dr. Garrett has completed extensive continuing education across restorative, surgical, digital, and leadership-focused disciplines, reflecting his belief that growth in dentistry extends beyond technical skill alone.
In addition to clinical advancement, Dr. Garrett is passionate about the human side of dentistry - communication, optimism, leadership, and the small behavioral shifts that influence patient trust and team culture. He believes that strong connection and intentional leadership are essential to sustainable success in modern practice.
Outside of dentistry, Dr. Garrett values time with his wife and two children. Family, outdoor adventure, and personal development are central to his life, and they continue to shape his perspective on balance, growth, and purpose both inside and outside the operatory.
