Educational Objectives

By attending this webinar you will learn how to:

  • Differentiate between claim rejections, denials, resubmissions, and appeals to determine the appropriate next step.

  • Identify common clinical documentation, imaging, and attachment gaps that contribute to delayed or denied dental claims.

  • Apply a structured approach to documenting medical necessity and assembling supporting evidence for commonly denied procedures.

  • Evaluate denial patterns and insurance aging to identify workflow breakdowns, assign ownership, and determine when additional support may be needed.

Abstract

Dental insurance denials are rarely isolated events. They are often the result of breakdowns that begin much earlier in the revenue cycle, from verification and clinical documentation to attachment selection, claim submission, and follow-up. This course gives dentists a practical framework for understanding why claims are rejected or denied, how to prevent common problems before submission, and how to respond more effectively when payment is delayed or denied.

Attendees will learn how clinical documentation, diagnostic-quality evidence, team responsibilities, and procedure-specific requirements work together to create a stronger claim. The course also explores the difference between rejections, resubmissions, and appeals; how to build a well-supported appeal; and how to use denial and aging data to identify recurring workflow problems.

Rather than treating every unpaid claim as an insurance problem, participants will leave with a clearer understanding of where breakdowns occur, what they cost the practice, and how to create more consistent systems for protecting revenue and reducing unnecessary rework.
