Educational Objectives

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand and challenge the diagnosis of irreversible pulpitis
  • Understand the requirements for successful vital pulp therapy
  • Understand the advantages of bioceramic materials
  • Understand new techniques for vital pulp therapy

Abstract

Maintaining the vital pulp has obvious advantages. However, studies from the 1960’s concluded that vital pulp therapy of the exposed pulp was generally unsuccessful and that root canal treatment provided a more predictable long-term prognosis. New materials and technologies enable us now to consider treatments that were previously considered impossible. This talk will cover how bioceramic materials have changed our definition of irreversible pulpitis and their application in vital pulp therapy of immature and mature teeth.
