Abstract

This course is designed for dental professionals aiming to enhance their shade-matching capabilities and integrate advanced technology into their practice for superior restorative results. It simplifies the complexities of shade matching in restorative dentistry, making it more accessible for practitioners. Through an in-depth examination of resin composite materials, attendees will learn about the essential factors that affect shade-matching accuracy and its importance for esthetic and functional outcomes. The course includes an overview of resin composite composition and optical properties, shedding light on their influence on clinical shade matching. Additionally, the course will review resin composite systems and colors available, emphasizing their role in addressing shade-matching challenges. A key component of the course is the focus on Filtek™ Easy Match technology and its clinical applications. This section is designed to demonstrate how material technology can simplify the shade-matching process, thereby improving efficiency, and achieving better esthetic results in dental restorations.

Author Bio

Rafael Rocha Pacheco, DDS, MSc, PhD

Dr. Pacheco is an associate professor and section director of dental materials at the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University. He is the course director of dental materials for dental students, graduate, and dental hygiene students, and teaches operative dentistry and fixed prosthodontics. Dr. Pacheco holds a DDS, an M.Sc. (Dental Materials), and a Ph.D. (Dental Materials). He is currently the vice chair of the department of restorative sciences at the Dental College of Georgia. He was previously an associate professor with tenure and department chair at the University of Detroit Mercy, School of Dentistry (since 2015). Dr. Pacheco is a guest lecturer at the University of Michigan, School of Dentistry since 2019 for multiple dental and graduate courses. He is the author/co-author of multiple peer-reviewed journal articles, five book chapters and his research is focused on dental materials used in restorative dentistry (polymerization, dental ceramics, resin composites, and adhesive systems).
