After completing this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Compare and contrast the two ultrasonic technologies, magnetostrictive and piezoelectric.
- Evaluate the components of a magnetostrictive insert including stacks, connecting body, grip, and tip.
- Select the most appropriate insert/tip for the patients’ clinical condition.
- Discuss the impact of metal wear of inserts (magneto) and tips (piezo) on achieving optimal clinical performance.
- Develop a measuring system to ensure durable insert/tip performance.
Abstract
Ultrasonics Unleashed: Maximize Your Power Instrumentation for Better Patient Outcomes, Clinician Performance, and Practice Growth
Power scaling is an essential part of a blended approach to instrumentation. Maximizing ultrasonic therapies to achieve optimal patient outcomes is achieved by knowing the differences and clinical application between magnetostrictive and piezoelectric ultrasonics. Selection of power instruments will be discussed based on patient clinical conditions. Critical to successful power scaling, clinicians must be aware of ultrasonic insert/tip (UIT) wear. This program will explore a system for measuring UIT performance including current innovations available in the market.

Noel Paschke, MS, BSDH, RDH
Noel Paschke, MS, BSDH, RDH, is the founder and president of Ultrasonic Plus. Noel brings a wealth of expertise in both magnetostrictive and piezoelectric ultrasonics as the former U.S. manager for clinical education for then Dentsply Cavitron, senior manager of North America professional education for Philips, and North America director of education for ACTEON.
Her leadership in education cultivates confidence and instills clinical excellence for clinicians using ultrasonic instrumentation. Noel is an award-winning dental professional. She was selected as Teacher of the Year by dental hygiene students and the inaugural recipient of the Linda DeVore Dental Hygiene Alumni Award at the University of Maryland, Dental School. She is a Sunstar Award of Distinction winner and most recently honored with one of the prestigious Denobi Awards.
