Rolling into Underserviced Communities with Mobile and Teledentistry
Educational Objectives
After completing this webinar, participants will be able to:

- Describe the many types of mobile dentistry companies that exist to service the underserved communities.

- Recognize the importance of infection control and how it is done for Mobile Clinicians.
Abstract
According to PubMed, Teledentistry improves ready access to preventive dental care and teleconsultation with specialists for patients in underserved or remote areas. In addition, it allows the dentist in the nearby community to provide easier access to preventive care to a patient who, otherwise, probably will not seek care. Mobile and Teledentistry combined can be a bridge to reaching many underserviced communities and providing the essential oral care they need. Mobile dentistry can deliver much-needed dental services to rural communities through mobile dental vans or pop-up dental clinics in population centers, schools, nursing homes, or hard-to-reach areas. This model focuses on offering access to care for underserved residents of isolated, rural communities. This helps patients that would otherwise have to travel a long distance or cannot afford to travel to access dental services. Teledentistry is the avenue that can extend an arm outside of the dental office and into the community. Teledentistry and mobile dentistry together can make dental care more affordable by allowing patients to get access to quality dental care in their community.

Cofounder of The National Mobile & Teledentistry Dental Conference, The American Mobile Dentistry & Teledentistry Alliance, and the prestigious Denobi Awards, Sonya is behind the new I Woman podcast and movement. Sonya is the published author of three books and the recipient of the 2020 Philips Heart to Hands Award and the 2022 Sunstar Award. She is also the producer of Suave & Sassy Senior Show.
