Short Implants in the Posterior Maxilla and Mandible - Optimizing Outcomes

Being able to provide implant-supported replacements for missing posterior teeth simply, without having to resort to complex grafting procedures, is always going to be a benefit to your patients and to any dentist in General Practice.
Short implants work very well. They can be at least as successful as standard sizes. This course will provide you with a knowledge of what they are and how they work. Short implants need not be restricted to sites with inadequate bone height, but we must understand how the available bone height influences implant survival and complication rates.
Factors such as the strength of the components, connection stability, crown height, bone strength and splinting will impact on the success of the short implant so it is important to investigate these.
Once these issues are identified, we can plan our replacements and decide if short implants will work in a case.

Author Bio
Dr. Geoffrey Pullen
Geoffrey Pullen graduated DDS from the University of Southern California in 1981 having previously obtained his BDS from Kings College Hospital in London. He is a Past President of the American Dental Society of Europe and has been President of the American Dental Society of London. He started his private practice in 1985 from scratch in Central London and has placed and restored dental implants since 1989. Pullen has lectured widely in the UK, Europe, Russia, India and the USA on treatment planning and implantology. He has lectured on periodontics and peri-implantology for the Royal College of Surgeons London diploma in implantology. He served on the Clinical Board of Oasis and BUPA and the Editorial Board of Private Dentistry. Pullen has demonstrated live surgery to hundreds of dentists in his practice for over 25 years and has placed and restored thousands of Bicon Implants since 1997.
