Event Details

The prevalence and incidence of diabetes in the United States have not declined in the last 20 years. Forty million Americans (12% population) have diagnosed or undiagnosed diabetes and a third of adults (115 million) have pre-diabetes. Diabetes is recognized as a systemic disorder with a moderate impact on the prevalence and severity of periodontitis. Patients with poor glycemic control have an increased risk for gingival inflammation, periodontal diseases, taste alterations, saliva impairment, and dental caries. This webinar will present the most current evidence-based science for the identification, treatment, risk assessment, and long-term management of oral diseases associated with diabetes.

By attending this webinar you will learn how to:

  • Identify the risk factors and oral manifestations of poor glycemic control.

  • Recognize common prescription medications and their side effects used in the treatment and medical management of pre-diabetes and diabetes including GLP-1s.

  • Provide customized oral interventions based on the patient presentation.

  • Employ mitigating steps to prevent diabetes-associated medical emergencies and respond appropriately during a crisis.
